I started off this post with:
I don't trust GIFs at all. I'm going to need to see the video to believe that someone actually pulled off a full tail whip. It seems they would have too much forward momentum to change direction and pull that off.

The bike flip, if I recall the guy he was competing against landed the double back-flip, no-one else has been good/bold/stupid enough to try them in competition.

It's a bike flip, the bike pivots around the rider's grips. A tail whip is where the frame/rear tire/etc. spins around the headtube, which is not possible on a dirt bike (unless it's that crazy one Pastrana had at X Games ages ago).

After practicing into a foam pit, he adds a ton of mulch to the landing, which stops him dead when landing, but if crashing, pads his fall.
